Why coffee scrubs? Ah, let me enlighten you. Besides the fact that they smell awesome and delicious, caffeine in products is super beneficial.
First of all, when you use any kind of scrub you are sloughing off dead skin cells and making your skin look brighter. This is also going to clear away gunk from your skin and make it easier for nutrients (like those found in moisturizers or, ahem, caffeine!) to penetrate deep down. Oh yeah, magic stuff.
Caffeine is an ingredient that helps diminish the appearance of cellulite. It can also diminish appearance of unsightly veins and even dark spots. Like I said, magic stuff.
I recently purchased two different Arabica Coffee Scrubs to start out a blog series that will be known as This or That. I will be taking two very similar items and testing them out. Only one will be crowned the champion.
Pssssssst! Want to know a secret? I paid a whopping total of $1.10 for both of these scrubs! Check out websites where I score tons of free stuff to find out exactly how I did it!
Key Ingredients: Dead Sea Salt, Kona Coffee, Olive Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Grape Seed Oil, Coffea Arabica Seed Oil, Shea Butter, Cacao Extract, and Coconut Extract.
Brags: GMO Free, Paraben Free, Sulfate Free, Vegan and Cruelty Free.
My first thought when I opened this bad boy was, “Dang! This smells like a fresh brewed cup of very strong coffee!” It definitely made me crave a cup. In fact, it almost knocked me over… in a good way!
The texture was so different than any other scrub I had used before. It was almost the exact same consistency of sand. I am used to scrubs having a little bit more of a bonding agent of sorts, so I wasn’t sure how easily this would spread.
It didn’t spread very easily at all. I used way too much because I wanted to get a nice saturation of it on my skin and it just stuck to me instead of spreading around.
I was afraid at first that the consistency would be too harsh for my sensitive skin, but it wasn’t. It felt very coarse but it was somehow gentle enough to not tear up my skin. It definitely exfoliated!
Afterwards, my skin felt very clean but really needed some hydration. I slathered on lotion and all was better.
The benefits from the cellulite standpoint weren’t crazy impressive, but I do have some stubborn cellulite. As with most things, continued use is generally the key to seeing results. It did make my skin appear brighter, though!Mmm! Coffee scrubs! I want to banish cellulite AND smell like a yummy coffee shop. http://bit.ly/edl-cs Click To Tweet
Key Ingredients: Gourmet Coffee, Dead Sea Salt, Coconut Oil, Olive oil, Shea Butter, Sweet Almond Oil, and Grape Seed Oil.
Brags: 100% natural; Organic Coffee, Coconut, and Shea Butter.
The smell of this scrub was not quite as strong as the previous one I had tried, but it still had a nice coffee smell. De-licious. The entire bathroom smelled like a coffee shop.
The texture was almost the same but this one was slightly less coarse. It seemed to be easier to spread too. I only needed half as much product. Once again, the coarseness did not bother my sensitive skin.
Here’s the kicker: This one left me so incredibly soft and smooth. I used this before I shaved my legs and I didn’t even need to use lotion afterwards. It penetrated so well that I had silky legs the rest of the day too.
I noticed that I felt a bit firmer with this one just after a few uses. I wouldn’t say I needed to whip out the camera for an “after” shot (sorry, you aren’t getting a pic of this sexy cellulite lady.. ha!) but it was most notably an improvement from before.
The Results Are In
This battle had a very clear winner for me and it was most definitely the First Botany Arabica Coffee Scrub. Getting a good scrub and silky hydration in one step? Yes please! Everyone loves to save time.
As far as smoothing out my cellulite, I will need to start using my coffee scrubs on a regular basis (and probably eat some more vegetables.)
Who knows, maybe you will get that before-and-after shot after all.
Have you ever used coffee scrubs before? How did you like them?
Seeing as this is a new series of articles, I would absolutely love if you guys could give me suggestions for more products. It can be anything beauty related! Scrubs, lotions, shampoos, etc. Send me an email or leave a comment suggesting some products you’d like to see go head-to-head.
